Uncertainty over Unhappiness

Do you let your fear of the uncertain keep you from pursuing the things that fulfill you? Are you pursuing a career that makes you unhappy?

If your answers to these questions are yes, ask yourself why. Are you staying where you are because you don’t want to disappoint others? Because you’re worried about what people will think? Because you’re worried that you’ll fail elsewhere? All of the reasons will be rooted in fear. That is good because fear is usually a choice.

Based on your situation, determine the amount of risk that you’re willing to take to walk away from your unhappiness. You may not be able to walk away from everything overnight, but we all have the ability to take the initial steps to choose uncertainty over unhappiness.

Very nicely written Saeah. You have effectively articulated (what can be) an excruciating difficult and complex subject (especially for people “in the thick of it”) into a few eloquent paragraphs and action points. Excellent work!

Thanks for your comment! Have you read Tim Ferriss’ book The 4-Hour Workweek? Certain parts of his book do a great job in discussing the fear of uncertainty in limiting people’s potential. Seth Godin is also incredible on this topic. Thanks for reading!

haha. 4 Hour Work Week = sounds like me, but I haven’t read that book. I’ve gone through a brutal trial-by-fire of uncertainty over the last few years so I’m not afraid of uncertainty anymore. It’s afraid of me!! haha – Keep up the good work, Saeah! I really enjoy your writing and photography.
