A few months ago, I gave myself a goal to do seven posts a week. I sat at my desk at home after 10 hours at work and less than 5 hours of sleep. I spent 4 hours clicking around doing everything while getting nothing done. I couldn’t focus. In truth, that goal kept me from writing any posts at all for months.
I am a chronic overachiever, and I became my own victim.
You have to realize when you have overcommitted yourself, and scale it back. You don’t have to have to sign up for every project. You don’t have to go to every party. You don’t need to volunteer for every club, and you don’t have to help every friend.
Sometimes, no can be a complete sentence. You can say no without punishing yourself for it. Don’t feel guilty about it. Don’t worry about the opportunities you “missed.”
