Negativity

The restaurant made a mistake with my order then told me it was my fault for not being clear.

It felt like the man at the post office had a vendetta against me.

I got trolled in (of all places) a botany forum.

Someone cut me off while I was driving, almost causing an accident.

A woman called me a b*tch under her breath because her child almost ran into me after she lost track of him.

The world is full of this kind of negativity. You can let it seep under your skin. You can stew in your anger. You can write the restaurant a negative review, complain to a manager, or writing a ranty troll-like reply. You can waste your time by letting it ruin your day.

Or you can let it go. You can realize that most people are doing the best that they can.

The waitress at the restaurant and the man at the post office may have had a lot of rude customers that day. The woman was likely in panic after losing her child. The man on the botany forum might be dealing with something difficult in his life.

You can create the story behind the negativity.

You decide how you feel, not them.

"'All I know is that my life is better when I assume that people are doing their best. It keeps me out of judgment and lets me focus on what is, and not what should or could be.' His answer felt like truth to me. Not an easy truth, but truth.” -Brené Brown (Rising Strong)
